Adopting a multi-cut silage system is not for everyone. For one Somerset family, a less intensive approach is preferred.

Sticking to a traditional May cutting date for making first-cut grass silage could be putting winter milk yield at risk, a silage specialist is suggesting.

There seems to have been a theme emerging over recent years. Namely, that farmers who take their first cut of grass silage early, for example in April or early May, can end up better off.
